Developmental Trajectories of Delinquent and Aggressive Behavior: Evidence for Differential Heritability
The developmental course of antisocial behavior is often described in terms of qualitatively distinct trajectories. However, the genetic etiology of various trajectories is not well understood. We examined heterogeneity in the development of delinquent and aggressive behavior in 1532 twin youth using four waves of data collection, spanning ages 9–10 to 16–18. A latent class growth analysis was used to uncover relevant subgroups. For delinquent behavior, three latent classes emerged: Non-Delinquent, Low-Level Delinquent, and Persistent Delinquent.
Examining the propensity and nature of criminal risk behaviours in frontotemporal dementia syndromes and Alzheimer's disease
Some people with dementia develop changes in behaviour and cognition that may lead to interactions with police or the legal system. However, large, prospective case–control studies examining these behaviors are lacking.
Forensic Value of Genetic Variants Associated with Anti-Social Behavior
Insanity defense is sometimes invoked in criminal cases, and its demonstration is usually based on a multifactorial contribution of behavioural, clinical, and neurological elements. Neuroradiological evidence of structural alterations in cerebral areas that involve decision-making and moral reasoning is often accepted as a useful tool in these evaluations. On the other hand, the genetic predisposition to anti-social behavior is still controversial. In this paper, we describe two cases of violent crimes committed by young carriers of genetic variants associated with personality disorder; both the defendants claimed to be insane at the time of the crime.
Genetic associations of risk behaviours and educational achievement
Risk behaviours are common in adolescent and persist into adulthood, people who engage in more risk behaviours are more likely to have lower educational attainment. We applied genetic causal inference methods to explore the causal relationship between adolescent risk behaviours and educational achievement.
It's nature and nurture: Integrating biology and genetics into the social learning theory of criminal behavior
Major advances in the fields of biology, genetics, neuroscience, and psychiatry have shown that many human behaviors are impacted by factors other than social influences. Still, the field of criminology has not incorporated these biological influences into any mainstream criminological theories, leaving a large divide between theories holding entirely sociological and entirely biological explanations of criminal behavior.
NEUROSCIENCE AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE: TIME FOR A 'COPERNICAN REVOLUTION?'
The main purpose of this Article is to argue for a fundamental change in the conceptual orientation of criminal justice: from one based on concepts such as free will, desert, and moral responsibility, to one based on empirical science. The Article describes research in behavioral genetics, acquired brain injuries, and psychological traumatization in relation to criminality. This research has reached a level of development at which the traditional approach to criminality is no longer tenable and should be discarded. I argue that mental health legislation provides a model that could be adapted and applied to offenders.

The Associations Between Medical and Mental Health Conditions and Health Care Utilization in US Adults with Past-Year Criminal Legal Involvement
Background: Every year, millions of US adults return home from prison or jail, and they visit the emergency department and experience hospitalizations at higher rates than the general population. Little is known about the primary conditions that drive this acute care use. Objective: To determine the individual and combined associations between medical and mental health conditions and acute health care utilization among individuals with recent criminal legal involvement in a nationally representative sample of US adults.

This study examines the relationship between the probability of committing a crime and various personality qualities, including Agreeableness, Extraversion, Conscientiousness, Openness, Neuroticism, and demographic variables associated with crime criminologists.
Exploring the relationship between depression and delinquency: a sibling comparison design using the NLSY
Relative to the general population, adolescents with psychiatric disorders such as major depression disorder are incarcerated (and reincarcerated) at higher rates. Current research is mixed on whether this association is a cause, consequence, or the product of selection. For example, aggression can lead to more depressive symptoms, yet depression is associated with antisocial behaviors (e.g., delinquency).
Lost diagnoses? A multi-year trajectory of patients with childhood ADHD in the criminal justice system in Switzerland
Background: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is prevalent amongst offenders, increasing risks for aggressive and delinquent behaviors. Since ADHD and its symptoms can persist into adulthood, accurately diagnosing and maintaining diagnoses in offenders is crucial to ensure appropriate treatment and reduce recidivism.

The influence mechanism of urban street environment on juvenile delinquency based on multi-source data fusion: a case study of Manhattan, New York
Streets are an important component of urban public spaces and also a high-incidence area for urban crime. However, current research mainly involves adult crime, or fails to distinguish between adult and juvenile crime, which poses a severe challenge to the prevention of juvenile delinquency. Juveniles have lower self-control abilities and are more likely to be influenced by external environmental factors to trigger criminal behavior compared to adults.
THE INFLUENCE OF FEMICIDE ON CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR: AN EMPIRICAL APPROACH USING ECONOMIC COMPLEXITY FOR CRIME PREVENTION IN MEXICO
Following the economic complexity methodology introduced by Hausmann et al. (2013), this study establishes an order of crime evolution in Mexico. This ordering is based on the complexity of crimes, as determined by the capabilities required to commit them. According to the study, the least complex crimes in Mexico include robbery in collective public transport, robbery in individual transport, counterfeiting, and auto parts theft. On the other hand, the crimes characterized by the highest complexity involve organized crime, intentional and unintentional homicide, and the trafficking of minors.
The Nexus between Crime Rates, Poverty, and Income Inequality: A Case Study of Indonesia
This study examines whether income inequality and poverty are determinants of crime rates across 34 provinces in Indonesia. Three indicators of income inequality and four poverty measures are tested to examine whether the dimension and degree of unequal welfare distribution are linked to crime occurrences.
