For more than 152 years, the American Correctional Association has championed the cause of corrections and correctional effectiveness. Founded in 1870 as the National Prison Association, ACA is the oldest association developed specifically for practitioners in the correctional profession. During the first organizational meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio, the assembly elected then-Ohio Governor and future President Rutherford B. Hayes as the first President of the Association.

RTA helps people in prison develop critical life skills through the arts, modeling an approach to the justice system based on human dignity rather than punishment.

The work of the Center for Justice Innovation (formerly Center for Court Innovation) touches all stages of the justice system, from arrest through reintegration into the community. But our work goes further by seeking to reduce the need for justice system involvement in the first place. Our primary long-term goal is to identify and resolve as early as possible the challenges that bring people into the criminal and civil legal systems.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) is a career resource offering information on the hundreds of occupations that provide most of jobs in the United States. The TDCJ has over 100 prison units throughout the state and employs approximately 20,000 Correctional Officers. Created in 1789, the U.S. Marshals Service was the first federal law enforcement agency in the United States. The Marshals Service occupies a uniquely central position in the federal justice system.
