Background: Patellofemoral pain (PFP) is a common knee complaint affecting diverse populations both acutely and chronically. Quadriceps muscle weakness is one possible aetiology, but current devices for measuring muscle strength (isokinetic dynamometer [ID] and hand-held dynamometers [HHD]) are frequently too expensive (e.g., ID) or lack reliability (e.g., HHD) for practitioners, especially in under-resourced settings. There is a need to evaluate a low-cost device to manage rehabilitation of people with PFP.

Objective The objective of this study is twofold. The first objective is to validate the functioning of a developed low-cost system able to measure vertical jump height. The second objective is to assess the effects on obtained measurements when the sampling frequency of the system is modified.

Conclusion: The strength assessment protocol developed in the current study has proven to be a reliable and functional tool, with the potential for utilization in clinical practice as part of objective strength testing.

Objective: To determine the intra- and inter-rater reliability, standard error of measurement (SEM) and minimal detectable change (MDC) of MIMS torque values obtained with HHD.

Background: Handheld dynamometry (HHD) is a practical alternative to traditional testing of lower extremity strength. However, its reliability and validity across different populations and settings are not clear. Hypothesis: We hypothesize that HHD is a valid and reliable device to assess lower extremity strength in a population of older adults.

BACKGROUND: Hand-held dynamometry (HHD) is used to assess muscle strength in various patient populations, but many variations in protocols exist. Background and Purpose: A new pull-type dynamometer, the EasyForce®, may offer clinical advantages for measuring strength. The purpose of the current study was to assess the intra-rater reliability of the EasyForce® and its concurrent validity compared to the Lafayette Manual Muscle Tester in healthy individuals.
